![Conte has also raised eyebrows for falling short of his own oft-repeated goals of empowering women at Patreon and ensuring that the team is as diverse as the community of creators it seeks to serve. In November, Conte sent an email to the company’s employees acknowledging that the departure of the company’s chief people officer, Tiffany Stevenson, a Black woman, would leave Patreon with an all-male executive team, an imbalance he promised to correct, as The Information has previously reported.
And in 2018, three female employees who had been fired or pressured to leave by Patreon threatened to sue the company for gender discrimination, according to documents viewed by The Information and people familiar with the incidents. In letters their attorneys sent to the company, they said they had experienced unequal treatment by Conte and other executives on account of their sex.
