i think you could probably say the same about most 'improvements' in the last few hundred years; they've probably made life easier but in terms of people's actual life satisfaction/happiness they haven't done much.

the things that actually improve lives are political/social changes like ending slavery, and probably medical improves that lower child mortality and extend longevity.
