literally, entire generation here got screwed because of how fast the world was changing. Being bilingual (at the very least) is such a necessity that few people pay tribute to

literally. we are forced to learn second and third languages because we are told we won’t succeed if we don’t. i don’t think anglophones know that we literally don’t learn languages for „fun” we literally have to, and i say that as a linguist with passion for languages lol
-
That's true, it annoys me when people think we do it as a hobby.

There was an AskReddit recently that asked "What's classy if you're rich and trashy if you're poor?" and one of the top answers was "being bilingual." I've been thinking hard about that ever since.

I don't know if it's ironic that someone was trying to say something eye-opening about language and then it only applies to the Anglosphere Nobody in e.g. continental Europe or South America thinks it's trashy to be bilingual

learning english since kindergarten……while I agree speaking english can be a privilege bc not everyone has access to a bilingual education, I also know learning it is a demand nowadays wouldn’t be a privilege if it wasn’t a necessity not everyone can fulfill, how ironic
