No, people have been trying to make machine consciousness since at least Alan Turing was still alive and we're honestly no closer than when we started, because it's based on the incorrect premise that intelligence is something that can be emulated mathematically.

This isn't some Christian LARPing "Hurr durr the machine can't think because God didn't give it a soul". It's a criticism of our monomaniacal fixation on the computational theory of intelligence. It's as dumb as Victorian era people trying to make clockwork brains.

So not at all dumb, then. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Difference_engine …

While a very nice adding machine, it's hardly got the capacity for intelligence or consciousness, however much one would scale it.

Mechanization of intelligence has many steps. That was one of them.

Evolution took billions of organisms and billions of years to blindly select for our level of intelligence / "consciousness". I think the /acc of computational / neural network / mathematical crunching of the last hundred odd has been pretty impressive on a comparative timescale

I suspect we're more blind in this regard than we believe ourselves to be.

Quite possibly, but after a certain threashold / intensity of automated recursive networked activity is breached, that may cease to be an issue... that's how selection works after all.

wait is this that the AI is creating itself theory? so at a certain point it evolves kinda like we did and creates itself? is that gonna happen? i'm a bit confused. where are we on that actually happening? can u gimme a % chance...
