      1. Thread #2 lessons to improve coding Lesson #1: do not use multiple monitors, use a single laptop sized monitor, you'll use 100% of your brain always on the current task only. Lesson #2: follow lesson #1.https://twitter.com/jackshaftoes/status/1311359032410562562 …

      2. Expanding on Lesson #1. The brain is like a CPU. If you have multiple monitors (news, slack, telegram, ...), every time something change on a screen your eye/brain will notice that and you'll initiate a context switch. And then you'll have to context switch back.

          3. Every context switch requires time to gain the best focus level that you need, a bit like in the CPU registries get overwritten by the memory required by the current process. Even if you think you're a pro at multi-tasking, you're likely just averaging your potential.

          4. If you need to react immediately to certain events, you can set up a particular notifications just for emergency alerts, your ear will get used to it and you'll react immediately.

Lots of peer-reviewed research shows people with more pixels are more productive. What you're complaining about here is not too many pixels but too many interruptions by apps. Don't run the apps or hide them or whatever. Keep the big displays.
