1/10 A thread about memories Yesterday I was part of a great interview (it will be released soon) and we briefly discussed my background / history as a developer. It made me re-think to all the projects I developed in my career and a really particular one came to my mind.

3/10 It was actually a really complex game. * set on a real world map * gamers could pick any real city in the world (I used a db of cities with their coords) to establish their headquarters * they could build factories, an army with many different weapons (tanks, ships, ...) ...

5/10 * gamers could create alliances to help defending a bigger territory Technically it was quite challenging. For the base game UI I used https://openlayers.org/  + openstreetmap + jQuery. Backend was mainly PHP + MySQL + C (for the location service)

6/10 I had to build a really complex in-memory data structure (entire earth boundaries) in order to calculate where tanks/ships could move (land vs sea). High-performance calculation and movement prediction had to be perfect in order to offer a smooth experience.

7/10 Lot of gamers started to use it and contributed with great ideas to increase strategies complexity, in-game weapons, ... I had a lot of fun.
