Privacy starts from the hardware. We need open source devices, especially Linux based mobile phones. I would expect much more investment and competition in this sector, a pushback against increasing global monitoring. What do you guys use? I'm waiting for Librem 5 at the moment.

I am using a Android Google phone and it's the most convenient and the most privacy violating phone I ever had. Used CyanogenMod a while back. Switched because inconvenient.
Problem with Cyanogen&CO is that then you have likely to use FDroid. I would like to see an Ubuntu mobile getting APT software repos. That would make me happy enough.

an old nokia n900 may do the trick, assuming you don’t care much about speed. iirc Maemo was debian based.
