Most #decentralized and #censorship resistant social media proposals that I see around lately have same downsides as DEXes.

Data storage and routing represent bigger risk and costs, so definitely needs rewards. I personally don't like huge content hubs, but prefer more: I host on a P2P network only the content I offer, get directly paid and I'll reward index curators to be included in quality indexes
As you mentioned, I think the key feature is "decentralized curated indexes". Indexes could be pay-for-subscription themselves.
