Most #decentralized and #censorship resistant social media proposals that I see around lately have same downsides as DEXes.

2 main issues - centralized interest: 1 entity deploys a solution to make money = single point of attack - asymmetric risk: data hosts bear a big risk, storing potentially dangerous content, even if encrypted Solutions are P2P protocols, token agnostic and risk symmetric

Interesting thread from

John Carvalho @BitcoinErrorLogTotally ignorant and self-serving comment. You cannot host video data for the public without curation because we live in the real world where we have legal jurisdictions and consequences. Most, if not all, jurisdictions forbid distribution of some types of content. https://twitter.com/muneeb/status/1210108860633096192 …Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

Right, still need curation - maybe decentralize the curation process? E.g. do the whole flag content as illegal & accounts as spam but via an open court-like governance mechanism?

Harder to avoid centralized interest esp with advertising being dominant biz model. If content is decentralized, anyone can make their own UI and direct all $$ flows to themselves. But then data storage = free rider. Maybe this requires incentived data storage as a primitive?

Data storage and routing represent bigger risk and costs, so definitely needs rewards. I personally don't like huge content hubs, but prefer more: I host on a P2P network only the content I offer, get directly paid and I'll reward index curators to be included in quality indexes

As you mentioned, I think the key feature is "decentralized curated indexes". Indexes could be pay-for-subscription themselves.
