Nova has just been updated to 10.1, fixing a number of issues that popped up in our massive 10 release, including one where the view might scroll unexpectedly with large files. Please enjoy it! As always, full release notes available at nova.app/releases/

🌌‼️ It's one of the biggest, greatest updates that we've ever done for our Mac code editor Nova. It totally overhauls how we handle languages. It adds a brand new comparison/diff view. And, just for fun, it has some great new dock icons. Nova 10 is here. nova.app

🌈 And just for fun, our wonderful icon artist Kenichi surprised us with a brand new set of celestially-inspired Nova dock icons you can now choose from. (Tip: you might need to reboot your Mac, or do a 'killall Dock', for the new icons to take effect.)
A screenshot of Nova's Settings > Theme view, showing some of the new Dock Icon choices. They are rainbow-colored and very beautiful. There's also a "Classic" icon in earlier Mac OS X style, and a "Extra Classic" icon in a sort-of Mac OS 7 style.

🔍 Nova 10 also adds a highly-requested new feature: comparison view. Slide it open to diff a file against a Git commit, or against another file, or even diff two specific commits, all without ever leaving Nova.
A screenshot of Nova comparing two files. There are lines drawing between the two views indicating what areas of the file have changed, and which have remained the same.

🌳 It starts with tree-sitter, an open source parser library. We're leveraging its power to dramatically increase Nova's speed and accuracy when rendering your favorite languages. Nova extensions can use it as well. And as a bonus, we closed out nearly 150 Nova language bugs.

🆙 If you're curious, a couple minor bugfix releases just went out the door: Nova 9.6 (which fixes an issue for macOS Ventura) and Transmit 5.8.10 (which fixes a possible state restoration issue). Please enjoy your day

🔉 Happy Friday! In our continuing effort to preserve MP3 player history, we just recovered and converted 17 more Audion Faces, once used in our early Mac MP3 player. We also updated our modern simple Audion Viewer to 4.0.1. Get them here, and have fun! download.panic.com/audion-viewer

💭 Logan has been thinking a lot about the future directions for Nova's language support. If you're an extension developer — particularly one adding new languages to Nova — please read and share your thoughts!

🙂 Logan was working on a new feature for Nova and it wasn't quite working right — or maybe it's working beautifully if you're Dan (that's his avatar)
An animation of Logan moving up and down with the cursor keys through lines of code. As he does, an avatar of Dan is drawing at seemingly random sizes and widths a the top of the screen, comically. (To me.)

I wouldn't be celebrating this day if it wasn't for you. You cheered us on. Bought our software (or games (or handheld game systems)). Visited us at Macworld Expo. Reported bugs and ideas. Told your friends about us. You are why we are still here. Thank you, from all of us.

🎂 Panic is 25 years old today. Well, if you go by the date Steve and I first registered a business called "Panic LLC". A few years we re-registered as "Panic Inc", and a couple years after that hired actual employees, so this is Birthday 1.0, really, but a birthday nonetheless.

🐞 There's more. Nova 9 hit yesterday, with debugging! This takes Nova to new, powerful heights. Debug PHP, Python, Chrome, Node.js, and, yes, our very own Playdate Simulator. Plus, new extensions APIs allow anyone to add support for custom debuggers. It's incredible.

🥲 25 years ago. It's been quite a ride. Thanks for this randomly generated memory, Wayback Bot. PS: the "Old monger." at the bottom is almost certainly a classic Cabel Debugging String, this capture somehow taken when we were switching DNS from an old server to a new server?!
