Given what we are seeing in the middle of a La Niña, I'm not looking for forward to the next El Niño year (2024?).

La Niña is the low-temperature counterpart of El Niño. The blue patch in the Pacific on this map of June's average temperature anomalies shows a particularly well-defined La Niña. Despite the relative cooling effects of La Niña, June 2022 was the second warmest June on record.
