This is a terrible tragedy and awful end to a brutal year. It is a system failure that resulted in irreversible harm to two families. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. We will hold the man who did this accountable. We will support the families of the victims

The replies here infuriate me. This is a tragedy, and I believe your approach of accountability for the crime and support for the victims families is spot on. To everyone questioning the circumstances, do you realize the role of the DA in our over-incarcerated system?

DAs can write a letter to the parole board to object to a prisoner's release, but it is out of their hands ultimately. Parole boards are staffed with psychologists and parole is only granted if they judge it is not a safety risk. For covid, many inmates were paroled early:

Parole was granted to people meeting all of these criteria: * nonviolent felonies * Not sex offenders * <60 days to serve Parole is a good thing. It provides supervision and accountability as people are reentering society.https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/covid19/frequently-asked-questions-expedited-releases/ …

Overall: of course, this should never have happened. But attacking Chesa for this makes no sense. We cannot keep people locked up forever for everything. We need to learn from tragedy like this to improve the system so it doesn't happen in the future.

I don’t understand, why can’t we keep people locked up forever?
@tmcalister75 had many second chances, did he not prove him self beyond redemption?
But i agree, he shouldn’t be locked up for ever, cheap death sentence good for me. Use savings to feed the homeless.
