I don’t get it, I’m over 30x more likely to die in a car accident or from an overdose, and at least 10x from several other things.

and they keep killing all of us, at a rate orders of magnitude more frequent than any other first world nation.https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2019-08-15/police-shootings-are-a-leading-cause-of-death-for-black-men …1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

I sort of drive a lot. Not in Sf much, but when I do I think it compensates since they are longer trips. Still, per this thread, I don’t think you need to drive in order to die in a car accident. Does this count as a car accident?

Do carefully note how the language I used "a leading cause of death" rather than "the leading cause of death" might effect your expectations for my references and discussions.

I know, that’s why I think this is misleading, how many other causes of death are there total? How many of the total can be qualified as “leading”?

I mean I think a better statistic would be comparing pee capita police killings against other first world countries by capita? For instance uk a country ten times our size as a city kills orders of magnitude fewer people than sf does.

I don’t know how to gauge this. I’ve lived in Europe and I never encountered a “gangster” type. “Mob/mafia” sure, but they operate kinda behind the screens. Dunno how to exactly explain this, but I think other places have less violent crime but also less freedoms.

I don't think Americans are inherently more criminal, I think our police state is more racist murderously violent and politically oppressive. Your a wealthy working immigrant so you're not their target. It's the black people they really hate.https://www.google.com/amp/s/missionlocal.org/2020/12/former-bias-trainer-says-reinforced-narratives-about-black-people-as-criminals-by-nature-thrived-in-san-francisco-police-culture/ …

I don’t think Americans are inherently more criminal, but I think the system may encourage them to be more violent when they are criminal. Tell me this please - what’s the likelihood of this person going to jail if he had just surrendered to the police before killing pedestrians?

My guess is - none. From what’s presented here, he was already released several times, why would this time be any different? Had he not killed anyone he would have been released and allowed to steal cars again. Now he may be in slightly more trouble. But then again...
