The US and Taliban agreement on a US troop withdrawal is meant to launch the first intra-Afghan negotiations to end the long war (41 years and 10 months). This is the most important part and where any hope for peace lies.

In the various components of these talks, including the intra-Afghan dialogue, the US and other concerned states should support the full participation of Afghan women, a broad range of Afghan political & civil society groups,and past proponents of legal and constitutional reform

Given long-standing and widespread impunity for serious human rights violations and war crimes by ALL parties during this long war, finding a way to include the concerns of the war’s survivors and victims is vital for accountability and to help prevent a repetition of atrocities
