Some actionable changes after Whole30: - Understood how to really read ingredients - Forced to find alternatives - Habit reversal: bad foods are not habitual anymore, instead they will become high ROI indulgences on "cheat days" - No more shoulder pain - Learned meal planning

The JHU dashboard is concerning. 1) Exponential growth of cases inside and outside China 2) Non-China graph seems much lower, but is "only" about 2-3 weeks behind at same rate 3) Data updates ~every night, so apparent slowdown in cases may not be real

We're excited to introduce our latest open source software, CausalNex - designed to help data scientists infer causation, rather than just observing correlation.

LIGO, a language for writing smart-contracts, is now supporting a Reason syntax flavor! Reason will not only be a good language for building type-safe ReactJS applications, but will also provide resources to get into the Tezos blockchain domain.

The biggest omission is that talent (as measured by performance) and status are one and the same in sport. It’s not the case in business, research, etc. I suspect status plays a stronger role than talent (eg McKinsey uses diverse status teams).

This paper I summarised establishes that in domains where collaboration matters, having too many "elite" individuals can be counter-productive. 🤯 I suspect that even start-ups that advocate for "A teams" end up hiring a good balance of talent.

The study leaves a lot of open questions on the nature of the relationship (is it really down to status conflicts?). The authors also suggest studying outcome-interdependence, not just task-dependence. But overall, the study impressed me with its level of rigour.

In Major League Baseball, however, a little competition is healthy as roles are individualised.

In multiple team sports contexts where collaboration matters (NBA, FIFA), talent offers diminishing and eventually negative returns. In the NBA, 50% (!) top talent is a little too much.

Their thesis: too-much-talent effect emerges because status conflicts can impair team coordination. Coordination is necessary precisely when tasks are highly inter-dependent and team members need to work together to solve them.

Existing research didn't miss this completely: hierarchy literature predicts that teams with too many dominant individuals produce disputes over within-group authority and status that undermine performance. This applies to everything from financial analysts to poultry farms.

First of all, to prove the point that this is counter-intuitive, the study polled individuals and their revealed preferences presented a clear linearity pattern for talent & performance in business.

Answer: Yes! This study suggests that when team roles are interdependent (football and basketball), having too much talent can rip teams apart.

Google Books is the most frustrating product I use on a regular basis. It’s *almost* incredible (search all books instantly!). But instead it feels like what you’d get if JSTOR ran Wikipedia.
