So indeed while the physicist (or anyone) may be quite wrong uttering opinions about philosophy, he is less likely to conceive nonsense the more conscious he is about his thought models.

The fact that we don't do this is because while expertise constructs nuance with concepts and nomenclature, our thought models build up intuition as a byproduct.

This suggests some sort of "Zeno Paradox of Thought". If every topic could ostensibly be tought with precision only after intense expertise, then any opinion should wait a long time to be uttered!

Basically, you open a newspaper in the science section, and you smile seeing how 'sensationalist and full of misleading information' the pieces are. Then you pass to any other section, and suddenly believe the pieces must be authoritative and take the information for granted!

Its Important to reflect this in every generation. Things that were once solutions may be the problems of today.

Picture a kid from 2105 reading about some ancient kid's question in 2005 about programming. How long can a stackexchange Q last before it becomes irrelevant? I don't think we'll have such different programming paradigms a hundred years from now.

Traits like competitiveness and political contexts like arms races do bring up breakthroughs, but if you take out simple contemplation, kindness and generosity, what is the point of of your success? What type of "industrial quantum engineer" are you promoting?

I don't think the profession of scientist should be about spectacle, nor tailored around competition. Without the boring parts that take a long time and inspiring collaborations (even between 'rivals'), you end up with a priesthood of survivors.

Probability is a field that is in dire need of graphical representations of its concepts. Check these nice illustrations:

What comes after this tweet is a interesting exchange. Since the marketing word for their field of physics is "fundamental", some of their members throw rocks from the innocent tower of "why particles?" to any criticism about their failures.

Imagine if you could just ask the analog of "what's your Github page" to a graduate physicist rather than "WHO's your advisor"? If you had community stats rather than citations in prestigious journals. The "prestige" mindset is a model that wastes human potential.

Why should a grad student have ONE advisor? There's a whole community of people and networks able to mentor at several levels. Academia is an inefficient system to train researchers because of pedigree and privilege.
