I'm proud of one graph I made with for our draft report on retail NG in a decarbonized CA . It summarizes why RNG is not a viable strategy for decarbonizing buildings relative to . [1/7]

Our policymakers are only slowly catching up to the realization that the abundance of caution of climate science projections, further minimized by narrow economics and hostile politics, has vastly underestimated the urgency of action. via

    1. No. Wrong. 2. The reason to fly is to be able to look out the window. 3. Window seat person owns the shade, Middle seat person owns the armrests. Aisle person gets to get up whenever they want. This isn't hard.

Taxing carbon emissions is fine. But says they don't do enough to cut greenhouse gas emissions

My latest: California officials are warning of power shortages come summer 2021, unless 4 coastal gas plants — which are supposed to shut down next year — are allowed to stay open: THREAD (1/n)

[paper] and I just published our research on lower cost, higher performance “hybrid” technologies in Sustainable Energy & Fuels. Here’s why it matters.

Another pedestrian hit in the intersection at Alcatraz & Adeline just now. We need to shrink this intersection immediately

Pleased to have supported this important study with scenarios developed in E3's California RESOLVE model. Interesting finding that a west-wide approach to procurement can reduce both the cost and environmental impact of renewables needed to meet CA's 2050 decarbonization goals.

Enjoyed the interview with David Spence of UT Austin about how to decarbonize the electric grids in California and the Pacific Northwest while maintaining reliable electric service.

Tl;dr, we find that building electrification is a lower cost strategy than RNG to decarbonize buildings in CA, but a gas transition strategy is needed to avoid adverse distributional consequences.

Building electrification is a growing focus of climate policy. I co-authored this report that shows heat pumps slash GHGs and can often save customers money at current rates.

Good lord this is enraging. The lawmaker in question is Anthony . Maybe he can tell us why this weak-ass "awareness" program is better than , the powerful bill he shelved.

Massive protests in France due to rising fuel costs. Underlines the challenges of pricing carbon to deal with climate crisis. This is why I increasingly think dealing with climate change will also require dealing with income inequality.

This is a really important point. Kemp is doing this, but the state (and national) Republican parties are silent, as are his state's leading public authorities (governor, attorney general, etc.). This is a democratic failure much bigger than one craven officeseeker.
