We (obviously!) love On the Metal, but we have found that using for Oxide and Friends has allowed for more dynamic content -- and many more voices. (And, dare we say, fewer ad breaks?) A quick thread with a few favorites from the past year... 1/

IMO "Oxide and Friends", by @oxidecomputer, is one of the best technical podcasts, hands down. Amazing cast, interesting guests, in-depth and technical discussions. Each episode is a gem. The previous incarnation ("On the Metal") was equally good. oxide.computer/podcasts/oxide

Fantastic talk on holistic computer systems by @bcantrill. I’m sold on @oxidecomputer being one of the most important startups of this decade. osfc.io/2022/talks/i-h

Yeah, on a desktop x86 computer, there's the moral equivalent of 2 or 3 fairly large operating systems that run before your operating system. Some of them stay resident while your OS is running, and conspire to lie to your OS about what the machine is doing.

"This is a BMC-free computer. That's the kind of feature you dream about: no BMC! Service processors? Welcome! But if you are a BMC or planning on becoming a BMC anytime soon, this is not your computer, stay home."

Today on our and Friends Twitter Space, and I will be taking up this topic. What are the arguments for and against asynchrony in a system? Join us, 5p Pacific today! twitter.com/i/spaces/1kvJp

Have folks seen a good systems-level discussion of async/await/promises/futures? I was explaining it to my son who is learning programming and found very few that didn’t quickly lapse into “it’s performant” and “context switching doesn’t scale”

I have loved many of our Twitter Spaces, but this one is particularly compelling: it shines a light on a thorny but often underappreciated problem -- and on the revolutionary approach that and her team have taken. A must-listen!

Big thanks to @mrskatehicks for joining me and @bcantrill for Monday's Oxide and Friend Twitter Space talking about the supply chain crunch, war stories, and some of the (incredible!) ways we've navigated the supply chain at @oxidecomputer. Recording here youtube.com/watch?v=e0UKvT

Today @ahl and I are going to be talking about the challenge of end-to-end signal integrity in the @oxidecomputer backplane with @arjenroodselaar, @random_enginerd, and some of the folks who helped along the way. Join us, 5p Pacific! twitter.com/i/spaces/1rmxP

A probe station with two bare PCBs mounted, connected via a twinax cable, with a measurement showing the insertion loss and impedance profile of the the channel.
This is a measurement two years in the making. Ever since we started designing the cabled backplane for the @oxidecomputer rack I figured we would be able to characterize this channel from BGA footprint to BGA footprint using a real measurement. @random_enginerd made that happen.

Or take the approach that we have taken at : pay everyone the same (high) wage -- and attract a truly extraordinary global team that is able to deliver far beyond its modest size

As mangers learn how to supervise remote workers we will see many high paying jobs move off shore to much lower wage workers — or be automated We are seeing it all over the place: SDRs, customer support, video editing, coding, design Salaries will drift to a global average
