I think you need to be careful that the "git" in GitCoin doesn't change its meaning from "source control tool" to "money grab". Maybe separating concerns or ring-fencing is a good idea; have a sister platform for "non-git" grants? Then it's easier to make domain specific rules.

By "money grab" do you mean users on the platform are only chasing $$$ and are compromising on something else ? Where can I read more about this?

Expectations cause more + bigger problems than rules. It's easier to change rules (moving forward only) than to change expectations. We make rules based on the data available at that time, we apply those rules today. We gain knowledge, create new rules, act on those tomorrow.

As you & those close to you will be enforcing you want the simplest set that you also are comfortable enforcing. That means you are entitled to also make rules to protect YOU and your mental well-being. Ps: Replace the word rule with mechanism but "rule" is nice for Twitter.
