The *sustainable* way to drive devs into the web3 space (and keep them) is *business models* that allow them to get paid. Solve for this; solve for sustainability. Solve for this; no more Grants. No more donations. @EthMagicians business models ring =>http://bit.ly/web3businessmodels …

Where the hell has the EEA been in all this? There’s been zero commitment to core developer support, but a 100% commitment to taking their best ideas and making a profit from then if they fan. At least ConsenSys has PegaSys. The rest seem to be freeloading on the core infra.

The EEA works on specifications and standards, they don’t write code. The membership are the enterprises (including PegaSys), who are participating in the EEA to form standards. I’m participating as an Observer to try & get more core EIP participation.

Understood, but many of these companies are huge and benefiting on a tilted scale. My company is an EEA member. I abandoned our working groups because of this. No desire to give back.

My experience is there is limited understanding of organic open source, never mind EIP process. Also - mostly North American based. I literally just shared my governance post / your EIP process tweetstorm within EEA to help educate.

Boris what can I and @gitcoin do to provide ecosystem / open source understanding amongst the EEA? Can we create on ramps for their participation in the community ? Is it worth trying?

It definitely is. Otherwise we’ll end up with a Linux foundation type OSS community where corporations are benefiting from a one sided relationship.

Doesn’t the Linux foundation solve those problems, albeit with high overhead ?

The corporate world! Some grants too. Ultimately the labor is being underpaid, and yes we collectively do benefit. I am beginning to seriously question the open source patronage model, and whether it will work for our community.
