Great question! The answer is yes, it does...mostly. It depends on what level fidelity the asset was first created. So if it was originally a background character, it will need some more love if it’s suddenly a “hero” character.

So the assumption is that the cinematics are massively expensive and time consuming, with an incredible amount of man hours sunk into them, but with very small to almost no monetary return, bar players resubscribing etc. I assume it is chalked up as marketing since (1)

It generates hype and all kinds of attention when they get released, so I just wanted to know- do you think blizz would consider making any of these cine standalon purely for fan/player love, satisfaction and enjoyment, as opposed to being linked to an overarching narrative? (2)

I knew you wouldn't be able to give a yes or no haha but I had to ask anyway :P Lastly-inoeraonally thinks he most famous and well loved cinematics to date are the wrath expansion cine, and the wrath-gate cutscene (different entirely I know). I'm not sure if (1)

You've seen it, bit a YouTuber remade the wrath-gate cutscene with modern models and effect in the last year, and it was super well received, and has about 1m views. It really does hold a special place in a lot of people's hearts, and actually seems more relevant than ever (2)

With both the callbacks to it (sylvanas exiting org in reckoning) and bolvar being front and centre this xpac (and maybe arthas? ;) ) So what would you think of a wrath-gate remake but in cinematic quality? Since we now have ICC assets and a pre existing lich king model? (3)

I don't think that would happen. Think of how many characters are at Wrathgate. Plus, that's the other side of ICC. Everything you see of ICC in the latest is made custom for the camera of the shot (unlike a game model that has a full 3D wraparound).

Moviemaking is all about cheats. Like those old facades of Western Towns on Hollywood backlots. We do the same thing on these. The original Wrathgate used existing in-game assets. And back then, Terran and his team just did Machinima capture and comping.

Comping=compositing using After Effects, etc. Sorry if you already knew that.

Nope, I know nothing about it, except the perspective trick! So thanks for info :) Kinda like how Silver Moon looks cool and complete but if you fly around in game the buildings are all busted and all front facing haha I know the chances are nil I just love the idea so much
