Elissa is exactly the kind of leader we have been looking for. Her experience comes from the very top of the industry but, more importantly, her values are what makes her a true Pantheor!

The worst outcome is lax regulation leading to egregious abuse and knee-jerk responses. Tech dystopia plus garbage laws/bureaucracy. That doesn't have to be the pattern, but it's the most likely outcome so long as the narrative of inevitability dominates.

People who make these arguments tend to coincidentally have investments whose prosperity is to some extent dependent on a lax regulatory environment. This is why there's so much fuel for "you can't stop it" or "government doesn't get it" narratives.

"Sure, that might lead to a dystopian future or something, but you can’t ban it.” This is philosophically half-true over a long time horizon, but it's a facile argument in practicality. We can and do get to decide what technology is allowed. Happens all the time.

Imagine a future where there's starting to be widespread strain for many in the US (e.g. a dustbowl), plus increased migration from even harder-hit central American nations. The politics of entrenchment will be potent. We have to be ahead of that.

The politics here are more difficult than the material reality. We can already see the Eco-fascist alternative emerging:
