Better solution: something like linux foundation without a company known for terminating a bunch of projects holding a killer switch
-

The problem with those foundations is that they don't normally have the money to run massive cloud infrastructure, help desks, etc. And if they _do_ get that sort of money it comes with strings attached.

Yeah, thats another problem with it. I like microsoft today and admire what they have done with dotnet. But as for now github has become a critical infrastructure for open source and everything is better then giving it to any single corporation.

So you were happy with GitHub holding the killer switch up until now? (with them apparently about to run out of money this year?). Name a foundation who had $7.5b to spend that you'd trust...
-
They lived from it, builded it up from the ground and had no other sources of income letting them kill the project. And the best thing - the users were ok with it, which they are not anymore. Rather MS or the escaping from MS will kill github as we know it now.
