Good news: positive followup on the herniated disc. Bad news: sitting aggravated it and I had, and am still having, a delayed-reaction nerve-pain spasm from hell in my leg. For 40 minutes now.

Back to the good news: initial steroid pack blasted it into semi-submission. Surgery if I choose it (“if you just can’t stand it anymore”), otherwise treating it with muscle relaxers and naproxen, rest, and walking for exercise once I’m stable enough.

We’ll discuss actual physical therapy next month; they showed me better positions to lie in and recommended buckwheat pillows (?). I am going to have to figure out ways to write that don’t aggravate the disc—orthopedic chair, standing desk, idfk.

Fun thing I discovered: Aspercreme (lidocaine cream, topical application) seems to take the edge off the nerve pain. Rx for the nerve pain (eventually a maintenance medication) won’t actually kick in for 1-2 weeks, so... *creamy shrug*

Mostly at this point I just want to sleep. I’ve only slept 1-3 hours a day for about a week now, distracted by pain and discomfort. If this weren’t already bed rest, I would be deranged with exhaustion.
