The emperor coming back ruined the happy ending here for me. In the OT, the good guys beat the evil space wizard who took over the galaxy. In the prequels, we find out that the galaxy was a flawed place that the evil space wizard could spends decades plotting and then take over.

What we learn in the sequel trilogy is that there's always another evil space wizard to come along (Snoke, Palpatine clone, whatever) so any victory is hollow. There's no protection from despots around, nothing that wasn't at least as good after RotJ.

That's the problem with the 2nd evil space wizard or the resurrection. 1 can be excused as happenstance, but if 2, then why not 3? If Vader didn't kill him successfully, how do we know Rei did? This is something a story can answer, but neither RoS or TLJ tried
