Those arguments have been around for a long time but, empirically, people seem to still show far more support for trying to muck with prices than for leaving prices do their thing and compensating with redistributive policies. Figuring out why that's the case is important.

Redistribution involves a redistributor and in the EEA it paid to be suspicious of anyone who got to decide where all the resources were sent, since they were likely to redirect them to themselves and their allies
