which makes a certain media/opposition strategy I've seen particularly frustrating where they spin up a serious campaign to discredit him the chloroquine thing is particularly frustrating it was not actually unreasonable for him to mention it!

maybe it was, in terms of political moves idk but the thing is that "whether or not trump says something" is just...not a signal of whether the thing is, at face value, a sensible or crazy/stupid thing to think

the best heuristic imo would be to save *acting against trump* for when he seems to be moving forward on an *action* and sure tweets and statements can count as actions

but have a "broken clock" mindset wrt Trump accept that sometimes you will look up and see that it has the time right but this should mean *nothing*

perhaps my experience working with severely traumatized and cognitively disabled children may provide a better analogy yes the kids have the agency to do things that hurt themselves or others and you need to address that but...

...you have to treat the weird but probably benign things they're doing and the things that they're saying as *extremely low signal* with respect to how intense your response needs to be and how disruptive your reaction needs to be

bc when you are dealing with someone you cannot interface with by drawing on your models of "normal" people then at best you're going to drive yourself crazy when your reactions just don't land inferring all kinds of meaning into things that might mean nothing

and at worst, your reaction could spark a chain of events that result in the kid doing something extremely disruptive or even dangerous

actually it's fascinating how well the media's dynamic with Trump maps onto a naive foster parent dealing with a kid who has attachment issues and an IQ of 78 the media could learn a lot from me here

dear journalism I have a Particular Set of Skills developed over the course of a decade dealing with this dynamic

How much to hire you to deal with this whole Trump situation?

idk if I could actually *deal* with it as in "make everything better" imo the only way to be effective with this kind of dynamic is to have a ton of time, energy, resources, and slack which neither our political institutions nor our media culture have at the moment

I could at best teach them how to survive without going insane until it all blows over and maybe how to be effective in *parallel* to trump
