Reading an interesting proposal that all future Mars satellites should have the equivalent of a GPS transponder, basically in case a human crew shows up on Mars one day. Interesting idea, but I feel like it's probably wildly more expensive than it sounds!
I've always quietly fantasised about a app that took a picture of the night sky and could tell you what planet you're on and where on that planet. Super impractical, but may be cheaper than this.

Satellites do pretty much that with their Star Trackers, but I have no idea how easily that could translate.
