As a child, how often did authority figures ever *explicitly* tell you that "Rich people are much smarter and harder-working than poor people"?

I get what Bryan is saying. It's just not and never has been a "meme" in America, that's my bet. The much more common meme is that rich people are rich because of unfair advantage, lying, cheating, stealing, unfair or outright corrupt business practices, etc.

Really? When I read these threads I feel like I grew up in a different country. The one I grew up in the idea of prosperity gospel, just world, and "I earned what's mine" is very real. People get very angry at the suggestion that their wealth may have been unearned.

Wealth is mostly immoral in the third person (as Ben Franklin might say), rarely in the second person and almost never in the first person.
