i have this crazy theory that the reason you see crossovers btw partisan lines and justices writing page after page after mind-numbing page of decisions, concurrences, and dissents is that they actually for the most part do have a judicial philosophy and care about it

In 2003 I wanted this so I could get Tom Bombidil and Faramir on screen, better Ents, Sarumon of Many Colors, etc. I was so optimistic about the future of movie making.

The Lord of the Rings reboot is in full swing. Warner Bros. film chiefs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy visited New Zealand earlier this year to reconnect with Peter Jackson and discuss future films. wp.me/pc8uak-1lCD6q
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The headline is misleading and clearly drafted to encourage clicks at the expense of accuracy. The article makes only a very brief reference to the studio wanting to reconnect with Peter Jackson and the possibility of reboots is not even mentioned twitter.com/bliss_hughes/s…

Legal immigration is *impossible* for nearly all immigrants wishing to immigrate to the U.S. legally.
You can’t just “get in line.” That’s a fiction perpetuated by those who want to keep immigration illegal.
My latest report explains why. Here’s the summary in 1 pic... 🧵

I don’t have a degree in political science, but I think the best bet for the GOP is to nominate someone who isn’t already disliked by the majority of Americans and hasn’t already lost to the extremely weak opponent before.

A puzzle game where you control the two parents of a toddler
And you have to accomplish increasingly complex tasks (bake a cake; scram an nuclear reactor)
But if the toddler is ever out of sight of both parents it moves like scp-173

I believe loneliness is one of America's great modern social and political problems.
And so I'm drafting legislation right now to establish a national strategy to combat isolation and promote connectedness. Stay tuned for more details.

Where did “ADVIL” come from? Answer: a paper that I coauthored with a machine elf I met while high, which is currently under review. It stands for “Atheists, Democrats, Villains, Independents, and Lesbians.”

Rewatched RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and still in awe by how fucking fast this thing is. Spielberg directs every scene like a set piece, giving dialogue and exposition nearly as much visual energy as chases and getaways. The pace is almost hypnotic, unlike any movie before or since.

I've spent roughly as much time covering politics and sports in my career so have some unique Lived Experience and the answer is that politics "fans" are an order of magnitude more self-delusional than sports fans it isn't super close tbh.

Wait *THIS* is why the dialogue became so damn unhearable on Game of Thrones?
Because the parent company got bought out and replaced their technology with way worse technology?

This currently has the worst community note I've seen. NYC generally has cleaner air, but right now it's unusually bad.
Quote Tweet
New York City now has the worst air quality of any city on Earth.
If exposed to the current air quality in NYC for 24 hours, it would be equivalent to smoking about 6 cigarettes.

That story about the AI drone 'killing' its imaginary human operator? The original source being quoted says he 'mis-spoke' and it was a hypothetical thought experiment never actually run by the US Air Force, according to the Royal Aeronautical Society.

The prolem is authoritarianism. Authority means power, and power attracts psychopaths. Economics/tradition/right-left/whatever is a tribal distraction here. The problem has always been authoritarianism. Not *their* authoritarianism, any authoritarianism.

There are many people who can’t conceive of someone following a principle that has no external enforcement mechanism. “How will this be enforced?” I find that notion extremely alien. Something can be a good principle and practice even if it’s unenforceable outside your own will.

This is an amazing double self-own. McCarthy blasts Republican majorities for raising the debt ceiling without cuts while he was GOP majority leader, and DeSantis War Room uses McCarthy‘s quote to take a shot at Trump for a debt ceiling increase DeSantis voted for. 😂

If Trump wins the nom, the story will be "come on, DeSantis was down 30 and the signs of a bad campaign were there before the launch." If DeSantis wins the story will be "maybe May of 2023 was a bit early to declare us dead in the water." And I'm done punditing for a year.

Reminder that 95% of my positive feelings about DeSantis come from the fact that I think he's much more likely to respect the electoral process than Trump would/has. His comments on the First Step Act are despicable.

DeSantis's comments on the First Step Act are laughable. The recidivism rates from the law are remarkably low. He either doesn't know what he's talking about or he's hoping you're stupid. It's embarrassing. twitter.com/reason/status/…
