It's cause the short shorts are "in fashion" at the moment. It's meant to be a trend but I'm not sure if it's just the stores choosing it xD
Seriously, the only shorts that I like that of a decent length are called "boyfriend" shorts. WTF?

Not gonna lie, I picked up 3 pairs of these - but ONLY for in the house/in my own garden. I'd change if I wanted to go out in public!
