This makes me so mad and it’s not because of how it affects me, but because of how it affects so many non-gaming channels on Twitch (thread).https://twitter.com/twitchsupport/status/1305644088885207041 …

In September of 2018, Twitch removed Creative as a category in the directory. Creators who streamed under Creative scrambled to adapt and find new ways to promote their channels, how to categorize their content, and how to deal with Twitch’s already super subpar discoverability.

Creators who stream any kind of content other than gaming have always had an uphill battle on a predominantly gaming-centric platform. And these new forced mid-roll ads hurt them more than any other type of creator.

Twitch is a business & their #1 priority is their bottom line. But to act as if we all bleed purple equally on a platform that makes decisions that disproportionately affects some more than others... just say other types of creators don’t make you enough $ and be honest about it.

How does Twitch expect tabletop RPG streams to adapt to midroll ads every 15 minutes? ASMR streamers? Even music streamers, my god. I’m tired of seeing Twitch promote a public persona of community & inclusivity when what they mean is “top 100 FPS streamers make all our money.”

I don’t begrudge
@Twitch their business decisions but I will use my platform to remind people: their recent choice to force midroll ads on us is not to “support your favorite creators” . Just say Daddy Jeff Bezos wants a new fleet of yachts and be done with it.18 replies 46 retweets 686 likesShow this thread

Replying to @ophelia_noir @Twitch
The worst part is, he can buy whatever he wants no matter if Twitch sinks or swims anyway.

Starting today, we'll be testing automated mid-roll ads for some viewers. These ads will directly support the Creator and won't run if the viewer has had an ad break in that channel recently. Your feedback is welcomed to help shape this feature!
