The shelter said they're not sure the kitten could be rehomed with us as he's "hyperactive" and they think he'd be better off having outdoor access to burn off energy.
I've encouraged them to reconsider and they said they'll discuss it and get back to me.

He's a baby who's never been outdoors, and all kittens are hyperactive. We're more than prepared and experienced enough to provide a good home for him, so I hope they'll get back to me with a changed mind. If not, I'll call them in a few days and see if anything has changed.

Don't get me wrong, if he was a cat who'd been outdoors for his whole life it'd be cruel to suddenly confine him to the house, but he's not. He's a tiny baby who'd have an equally playful big brother to play with.

I hope they change their mind. I almost feel like some places come up with excuses not to rehome some cats. I experienced that with at least two places. One lady told me they won't let me rehome cats because there was a road coming to our house. As if other houses don't?

That was their reasoning for us, we live too close to a busy road and they think he needs outdoor access, so they can't release him to us.

I don't like the line of "the cat is either routdoors or indoors". We don't let our cats go outside without our supervision (lots of foxes in the area), but we spend at least one hour a day in the garden with them so they get a play and fresh air. Wish more people understood :(

Absolutely! We take Crash outside for supervised outdoor time in the back garden (which is well-enclosed). I wish more places understood that this is an option too. I really hope they change their minds.
