For real tho - if this was sent by someone alive those species are long dead and we’re only now receiving the signals. What if we never were alone in the galaxy, its just the signal took to long to reach us and everyone died meanwhile? I have a short story idea right here.

The entirety of the "Humanity, Fk Yeah" subreddit is brilliant for short stories (plus a fair few that have turned into successful published novels)
