Finally braced myself through last episodes of Chernobyl. I watched an episode per week during daytime because it gave me an axiety attack and here's why:

The way it's shot like a horror movie during the radiation parts is really clever. Most adaptations would have made it totally politically focused or 'the guys at the top arguing' but showing the event as it happened and using the same techniques as horror films was very apt imo
-
It's quite difficult to watch but it's what we've been told and shown. And I hope it makes people a bit more aware of how actually horrifying the effects are.

Genuine question, how often do you come across things and think oh that's not what we were taught in school/saw on TV in Russia? Or was it easy to tell what was propaganda back in Russia? I find Russian politics so fascinating.

TBH at my time (high school, when you get interested in all of the stuff) we had internet already, so you could always access information reported from all sources. In university we were told to look for several different views on the issue - the truth is in the middle somewhere

Those who tried to prevernt it from getting worse, that that worked around it, those that went inside. They saved millions of people from a much worse fallout! I thank them for that. The show shows how some were corrupt and shows how the people that worked around there saved!

I was very scared to see that series aswell, not for same traumatic reasons I was 7 when it happened and remember the news very well. my grandma panicking cause she believed would be radioactive rains coming to us. I found the show really good. Thank you for sharing your story

When I lived in Bosnia (former Yugoslavia) I remember there were many children that were relocated away from radiation, and our neighbor took in two boys, and few other children were located under different families in the our village.
-
But I’m afraid that they may have been exposed to radiation too much, they seemed ok, but it was a tragedy nonetheless. And you’re right it’s something that young kids should never live through... but unfortunately you guys did, and it’s horrible.
