Virgin Media ALWAYS throttle. They offer faster speeds and say they won't but they always do. Even when you pay a premium for the gamer package or w/e it sucks but go back to BT if you can.

Yeah getting that feeling. Still have the BT router setup lol. Virgin Media's "special dept" is calling us tomorrow morning.

I'm with Virgin and don't get throttled. Always been good for us. We stream at 8k bitrate on the top package (20 up). We are outside London, wonder if it's a location thing?

Same here, been consistent and no throttle at all. Maybe it could be location thing?

Shouldn’t be a location thing, check your terms of service. I deliberately picked packages which don’t throttle most will throttle upload as standard. Gamer package doesn’t (or shouldn’t) throttle as made for streamers.

Oh, that’s good to know, thank you for the info! I explained to person what I do and how important speed is for me when I signed contract with them so he pointed out which one I need (most likely gamer one)

No sweat, looked into it a lot when I got my business and domestic lines (both VM). It MIGHT be that high density and oversubbed areas are throttled but would suggest that’s against the contract and voidable! Also packet loss tends to show up alongside in those cases.

We have the top normal package (not the gamer one), be interested to hear what one
@BlueandQueenie are on. But, always been fairly happy with Virgin for streaming/YT.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

What upload does the gamer package cap out at? We have 350 down 20 up but would rather have 100 of each! 20 is decent but still limiting for vid uploading.

It’s still only 20 up unfortunately as ISPs are yet to realise, and is also getting price hiked constantly (don’t need 350 down give me back 200 and a discount??), so possibly not worth it if you’re not experiencing issues. I got a VM business line alongside for backup.

Same here, 350/20 but in reality getting 380/40, price is less than what BT made me pay for 70/20 (plus their support was super sexist and managed to not provide service for a month).

BT and Sky have been nothing but douchebags in previous interactions. Basically anyone renting from BT to provide their internet service still uses their infrastructure so will experience BT service indirectly. Think we’ve got fibre coming though...

(Also worth noting VM Business is a separate company to domestic and you can pay extra a month for quick fixes etc. As my lines both go to the same TV cable cabinet, this effectively means I’ve covered both lines and all the neighbours in the event of an area fault
