      on top of this, would be great to see airbnb back open source foundations they depend on also and hiring engineers to actually contribute to these projects, that's the path towards sustainability

      that’s a big part of the intention of our current donations to Open Collective :-) (We also do already pay our engineers to contribute back whenever we can!)

      All those foundations are welcome to join open collective as well. That’s what @rubytogether did. That way it’s easier for sponsors like @Airbnb, @coinbase and many others to manage their financial support across many projects.

          I'm well aware... there's a difference between supporting a foundation and employing developers full time versus the tipjar approach of open collective (you also take a 10% cut versus 0% at a foundation), I'm overdue on a longer blog post on this topic :)

          Our 10% (which is a classic fiscal sponsorship fee) is split in two. 5% for us and 5% for the fiscal entity. So when we work with another foundation, we only take 5% and it’s up to them to define their commission.
