Fred Harvey Co. sold these maps for a dime in 1946, showing points of interest in the Four Corners region. Railroads carried tourists West after the war and then motor tourism took off.

An 1890s U.S.-Mexico border survey found errors in an 1855 survey. The Angle Monument where Arizona's border cuts sharply northwest was set too far west of Nogales. It was never corrected. That gave extra land to Arizona territory. (photo of a different marker)

that Grand Canyon gets snow? The South Rim is actually over 7,000 feet in elevation and the North Rim is 1,000 feet higher. On average, the South Rim will receive almost five feet of snow an year and the North Rim gets around twelve feet of snow. That’s a lot of snow! -JK

Too good to be true: As the story goes, Irving Berlin penned "White Christmas" while lounging one sunny, winter day at Arizona Biltmore. But biographers and historians dispute that old chestnut.
