I had no idea how intense the lyrics were until I listened to this. And also how talented the vocalists are.
I've been singing "No man cared if I were alive" at weddings my entire life but never processed it.

Everybody vaguely knows it as a gay anthem but I guess I just never actually listened to the lyrics? It's a pretty incredible piece of writing. Deep shame that it took a guy putting the most melodramatic Hans Zimmer song underneath it to force me to think about it.

I had this reaction recently to "Being Boring" by the Pet Shop Boys. Listened to it for years but only recently did the lyrics actually connect for me. Made me cry a little.

You’re not alone. I struggle to hear song lyrics beyond the refrain so I’m always late to fully understand a song, including this one. The lyrics are far more powerful than I ever took the time to consider. Wow.
