I'm on year 20 and I've learned so much every year- how to make games, how to collaborate with others, and what I think is worth doing with my time. I've been lucky and it hasn't been without hard times, but I love it and hope to help make more positive experiences for others.

Yesterday multiple people told me the average game dev life span is 5 years. People who’s in game for more than 5 years, what motivates you stay in the industry? People who left, what makes your pull the plug? I’m on my 4th year i can’t even imagine a different job honestly

If I wanted a verb that completed this sentence to mean that she succeeded, what would it be? "She <blanked> their moving goalposts" I think I have become lost in the analogy.

Has anyone been in a state where you're working normal hours, loving your work, but feel completely exhausted all the time? Is it burn out? It feels just like burn out, but none of the likely causes are there. Non-work life is great too. I'm a bit baffled.

Doing some research into the original DOTA mod and just remembering what an incredible game Warcraft III was for it's' time.

Finally managed to limit my rambling and actually record a TikTok under 1 minute. I thought that meant no scrollbar but I guess I don't understand TikTok because it's still there for me.

I’ve been lucky enough to work with the wonderful team at crybaby studios for the past 5 months as their programmer/tech designer, take a look at what we’ve made!! 💜

We're happy to announce what we've been working as part of @NIScreen Minigame: AWAKE. A retro-style survival horror game inspired by Silent Hill, Clocktower. Awake follows Tanya, an average Northern Irish girl, as she's forced to attend a family gathering. #indiedev #indiegames

Following on from my earlier question, which was brought on by design skill insecurity, it feels so good when you come up with a solution and it has the exact effect you were hoping for. The only odd thing is that now it feels obvious and you feel dumb for struggling to find it.

Question for Programmer + Designers. Because my background has been focused on programming, I feel like I jump too quickly into prototyping before really fleshing out and evaluating an idea sufficiently. How do you know when it's time to go from paper to in-engine thinking?

I set my desktop wallpaper to some vibrant backgrounds that drew for the game. Pros: Get to see lovely art all the time Cons: The corner of my eye keeps telling my brain that my laptop screen is my Unity window

Are there examples of games that have been mostly single player, but have some local multiplayer minigames or missions?

It's totally normal to go back and re-read emails (with professional advice) from friends and take notes, right? Feeling thankful to have such brilliant and generous friends. :)

There's that moment when implementing a new feature and you give it a reference to something, knowing one day you'll have to change it to a list, but you don't. Then eventually you have a single reference AND a list and it looks horrible, but it's your own fault. That's me today.

Is there such a thing as a "game design database" where for example, I could look up a bunch of gating mechanisms (ie. lock / key, block puzzle, minion destruction)? Also, if you can think of any fun / memorable methods of unlocking an area in a game, I'd love to hear them!

I'm playing restaurant with my son, who is the "order man". I asked for a knife and fork and I was informed that they are all dirty and when I asked for clean ones, he began shouting for his "order friends" to do it. Delegation skills at such an early age.
