If @keithfankish’s illusionism about consciousness is true, there is a property (a) we believe to be instantiated via introspection (b) is not instantiated (c) is at issue in the core arguments of the hard problem eg Mary But there is no such property!

(sorry for digging up ur old post, but i've a question) - so
#illusionism is more 'radical' in a sense, compared to PCS, becoz on PCS one wouldn't invoke the non-existence of such property. PCs are different from other concepts, but they pick out the same objects & properties?0 proslijeđenih tweetova 2 korisnika označavaju da im se sviđa -

That’s right, yes. PCS people don’t endorse (b) in the original post.

thanks, Daniel. may i have a follow-up: would it matter if we *stipulate* that functionalism re: phenomenal consciousness is correct? would u think it matters less whether we say phenomenal qualities are real, if our intuitions that they outstrip a functional analysis is false?

It is sometimes hard to see what’s at stake between eliminativism and reductionism. That’s the important point I think you are getting at here.

my point is: does science matter? intuitively we think no. metaphysics is just that. but if science unequivocally say that some non-anomalous i.e. structures correlates of phenomenal consciousness are to be found at the bio level, i suppose realism would be harder to be denied

I agree with
@hakwanlau that the science matters. My own take is that if we knew that functionalism was true then we would know that zombies were only prima facie conceivable and Shombies (anti-zombies) are conceivable1 reply 1 proslijeđeni tweet 2 korisnika označavaju da im se sviđa -

Gosh I hope I didn’t say that science didn’t matter! Notice though that if there are various notions of consciousness there are various notions of a zombie, and some may turn out to be conceivable in the strongest sense

I think Hakwan's meant that science can inform metaphysics, which is often denied (except maybe by the Canberra Plan?) Notice also that there will be various notions of shombies and some may turn out to be conceivable in the strongest sense too!
