The word “Patient” is far more disempowering to me than ‘diabetic’. My diabetes is far less defined by my relationship with my doctor than it is by who I am, what I do, and how I want to live my life. And that has literally nothing to do with being a patient.

Diabetic; It's cleaner to read/write and it doesn't define us, it describes one part of us-- like saying someone is a brunette vs a person with brown hair. The definition of diabetic as a noun *is* "a person who has diabetes". They mean the same, one word is just more practical.
