Tbh... I kinda like what the free market & private business is doing in this particular instance. Not words I often say.

That's the issue. The market isn't deciding this. The people pulling the strings of the platform that the market operates upon is deciding to remove a creator's content from the true market: the viewers. A true free market consequence to info wars would be if people didn't watch.

Well, the choice of what internet website we use to watch videos on is a part of the "free market" and people choose to watch on YouTube. Maybe free markets aren't actually free and free market ideology is flawed and we need regulation :P

Nobody is saying that YouTube doesn't have the right to regulate content. People are starting to move to places like DTube because of these decisions.

Well, we'll see what happens but after seeing
@vidme go under I'm not sure any competition to YouTube really stands a chance just because of structural reasons. https://medium.com/vidme/goodbye-for-now-120b40becafa …1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Fwiw what I would support would be to regulate YouTube like a public utility in some way (just like we do with the Internet & net neutrality). The same goes for other sites like Facebook and Google - anywhere with gigantic traffic, few to no popular alternatives, and where...

people get their news from, I think everyone would be happier if the government regulated them in some way so that they don't act in certain ways. Not sure on the specifics however, but that's the principle. And to be honest, I still don't mind YouTube striking channels for...

doing repugnant conspiracy theories about crisis actors and false flag operations regarding mass shootings. Some of the content on InfoWars is very irresponsible and I think it's fair to be worried that some of it might encourage people to commit acts of violence.

I see where you're coming from, and I suppose your idea about regulating YouTube as a utility is consistent with what the government has regulated in the past. However jumping straight to regulation by a government that definitely doesn't understand the platform worries me.

Yeah, I mean of course we need people with an understanding of the platform in government. For better or worse though at least within congress there are now or will soon be many people who have at least some understanding of how news on YouTube works.

Right. Also to your points about the quality and possible danger of the info wars news methods and ideology, I don't give a shit. They should be free to post what they want and have the viewing populace decide whether or not to watch it. It would be much less frustrating (1/2)

Yeah, I meanalso there's no doubt that the start of YouTube policing their content could be a slippery slope where they start doing similar things to left-wing parts of YT. That being said I think it's less likely because most of left-wing YT is much tamer.
