Hi Everyone! I'm proud to be part of this result (in a very minor way) and a member of the TESS team! Check out the first Earth-sized habitable zone planet discovered by TESS :)

In Jan 2018, I set goal to email someone 1x a week to tell them how I liked a book or article. I sent my 100th note today. It is one of my favorite things. Next time you read something interesting, useful, or thought-provoking, why not tell the author?

Any undergrads want a paid summer internship at ? Our group is looking for 5 awesome people to help us find and study planets with TESS. I can nearly guarantee you'll discover a new exoplanet if you want to work on the search side! It's a thrill that never fades!

NEW PAPER ALERT! "Scaling K2. I. Revised Parameters for 222,088 K2 Stars and a K2 Planet Radius Valley at 1.9 R⊕" (soon in ApJS!) This is the first paper in the "Scaling K2" series, with the ultimate goal of computing planet occurrence rates. But...

As the night draws in, I think of how every time we look into the night sky, we're looking into the past, seeing Andromeda as it was 2.5 million yrs ago, Betelgeuse as it was 600 yrs ago. We can't time travel, but the closest thing we have to it is all around us: the cosmos.

I've read that if we're against , we're bad people because it aims at giving an Internet access to populations in Africa which don't have any access. Rumors say that the subscription will cost 80$ a month. I was nice and considered a price of 60$. And I made this graph.

I’m testing a hypothesis. Starlink wasn’t properly researched and is ruining the night sky, which is a public good just like any national park and shouldn’t be privatized and ruined by big business turning the stars into a weird crawling mess.

Astronomers are deeply concerned as pollutes the night sky wth light trails. fans argue improved connectivity. So here's an analogy. Imagine walking out of your door to find that all of the cables that are normally underground are now at waist-height.

Along with everyone at , I’m so sad to see Spitzer end, but I am so proud of how much this observatory and the people behind it have discovered and accomplished over the mission’s lifetime!

Pat Seitzer from the University of Michigan: the problem with the Starlink satellites is that they are brighter than 99% of the objects that are in Earth orbit. With 1500 of them going into orbit "life is about to get really interesting"

As American troops are bombarded by Iranian missiles this evening, just remember that 10 hours ago the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said that the attack on Soleimani made us "safer" and President Obama's Iran Deal is who really did make us safer.

On a tangentially-related note, tweeting accurately and grammatically correctly about a scientific finding is harder than I expected, but I think (and hope) I've got it now! For more info see the three papers cited and described in 's thread that I've retweeted here.

Planets are awesome, and to understand them, it is crucial to also understand and characterize the stars they orbit :).

My biggest contribution was to derive a temperature and radius of the star. Several of us did this using different methods to really convincingly pin them down. The temperature and radius are fundamental in determining the temperature and radius of the planets!
