There is, rightly, a lot of focus on Trump in the aftermath of yesterday. But the tech convo should be bigger than Trump. Big Tech has for years allowed bad-faith actors — who lie and mislead and provoke — to exploit their algorithms for attention and build massive followings.

Every day on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube some of the most dishonest people are empowered — and algorithmically encouraged — to spread lies and conspiracy theories and hyperpartisan nonsense to large audiences. Tech platforms have not grappled with this in any meaningful way.

So brazen how they have no concern for the truth. The video in question was Trump telling his supporters to "go home in peace" and that "law and order must be restored" These big tech companies want to be authors of the truth.
