People who did *not* get yelled at as kids, how does being yelled at as an adult affect you?

Getting yelled at was fine, getting hit is a different discussion.

It’s awful and confusing! No-one shouted at me until I was in my twenties and I was absolutely horrified when they did. Ridiculous really, as anger & frustration are normal, not bad things. But I find being shouted at instinctively very alarming.

I get sick to my stomach as an adult. But I get over it with much more ease now than when I was a kid. I still remember when adults (teachers, neighbors, coaches) were upset at me as a kid, even if they didn’t yell. Their frustration was palpable.

I got yelled at ALL THE TIME as a kid (oldest of 4 girls). Now I yell at my kids the same way my parents yelled at me. What do we know about this? (I’m dead serious...I’m convinced my kids are ruined).

you can end this. it's a learned behavior, it's cyclical. my therapist refers to this as a "generational legacy". it takes an immense determination to break the chain. mindfulness, meditation, yoga, prayer, acceptance, forgiveness... these are (my) "tools".
