More importantly, the liquor and beer lobbies initiated a full-court press to make alcohol seem normal and healthy, and the public-health world largely bought into that messaging (at times because their grant money depended on it.) https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/01/why-there-no-anti-alcohol-movement/604876/ …pic.twitter.com/77XzEEDzKu

I read it in full! Brilliant article! I grew up in a very heavy party culture where I lived in the 80s! If you didn't party or drink..you were a weirdo! I did not do either. I understand the point about "being a drag" far far too well. But alcohol is a drug!
The article explains well the challenge in getting Americans to see alcohol as "bad!" The mental image of drinking is a strong and enduring one. If your a man, beer is manly. If your a girl, your a "fun girl" if you drink! I don't know how we kill those mental images!
Wonderful and reasoned article, thank you. I stopped drinking 4 years ago (not because I was problematic, but because I promised to drink with only one special person), and I am always the bore and weird one of any party or event.
So does breathing from our atmosphere. So does drinking & bathing in our water from near ancient water systems. Just about every process done to & in our body leads to its collapse.
Because we already tried to ban it. It just created more crime and more deaths.
Just like Marijuana laws do now.
