Personally, I'm hope that the UK uses this to opportunity to just go . I'm not optimistic, but it's also seems like the sort of thing that could come out of that job advert.

No more Milk of Magnesia for ! Maybe they'll go back to the generic Magnesium Hydroxide after 148 years. Or is that ok and Almond Milk, with it's 580 year history is just not cool?

Today I recieved the memory and I can happily report that the Alienware 13 R3 OLED does in fact support 64GB of RAM. But why why why did I need to work that much (and take a risk) to figure that out? (7/7)

This laptop's BIOS also thinks that it has a 5 cell lithium-ion battery, when in actuality it has 4 cells (I've looked). So I ended up deciding, well, if it doesn't work I guess I can sell the extra memory on ebay, along with the old memory. If it does work, great! (6/n)

I tried to research in what ways the BIOS could interfere with the maximum memory supported by the processor, and the answers were old, varied, and mostly unhelpful. As far as I could tell it's "was the BIOS written sensibly?" and *that* does not inspire confidence. (5/n)

While I was looking at dmidecode (to figure out what memory was in it) and that brand's memory page, I notired that both the SMBIOS and that brand said that the laptop's maximum memory capacity was 32GB. The processor spec says it's 64GB. So which do I believe? (4/n)

I then tried one of those memory brand "look up memory for your copmuter" and found... that they didn't say what it was *and* that they had the wrong maximum memory bus speed (too high). Then I read wikipedia. It really shouldn't be that hard. (3/n)

and while the places to buy memory had a few different (erronious) options for DDR4 SODIMMs (260 pins is correct) I don't know that off the top of my head. So I tried to look up the memory currently in my computer, and that spec sheet didn't say what sort of SODIMM either. (2/n)

A couple days ago I found my laptop running out of memory, which in one way is silly 16GB really ought to be enough, but w/e. The thing is... I looked up how much memory my processor says it can handle - 64GB. I looked up what sort of memory it can physically take... (1/n)

Some notation for thoughts to follow: `⇒ ⇒ 0` - given 2 things, give the last back. `⇒ ⇒ 1` - given 2 things, give the one before the last back.. `x y` - give y to x. `⤇ 0` - given a thing, evaluate it fully and give that back `↺ ⇒ 1 0` - gives itself the thing forever.

When building an ATV that can draw 40 amps, maybe don't use batteries that are rated for 2 amps? The original lead-acid batteries only got slightly bulgy in two months. It's much zippier now with a mildly smaller lithium pack.

The great thing about people overexplaining things in text is that I can skim the "overexplained" parts to see if we're making the same assumptions. Then when I get to parts that I don't know / didn't assume I have more confidence that I understand what writer is actually saying.

Everyone should be allowed to vote. Tiny children will almost always spoil the ballot but if there's a 4-year-old who can validly fill out a ballot (on their own, of course; can't have someone else in the ballot box with them) their vote should count.

There's a lot of talk about making STEM curricula include more humanities. What about putting more science in humanities curricula? Why don't we talk about that?

The terrible irony for a moderately humane (no kill) dairy farm is that the vast majority of people who care about vaguely humane (pasture, etc.) dairy would get squicked out over milk produced by hormonally induced lactation.
