Eternal verities: Football is the beautiful game, The Jam are the greatest band. And Britain is good enough to govern itself.

Rod Liddle's essay on getting Brexit done is - still - the most-read article on The Spectator website.

ITV News has done an entire segment on how awful the UK becoming an independent coastal state will be for the foreign fisherman that have fished in our waters "for decades". I cannot be alone in wondering where their concern for the UK's marginalised fishermen is in this piece?

People are cheering Twitter’s censorship of Katie Hopkins. They’re calling it a victory of decency over hatred. In truth it’s a victory of corporate censorship over free speech. Even if you hate Hopkins, you shouldn’t want her banned, says Brendan O’Neill

Appointed a lazy has-been coach, let him sign lazy has-been "stars", failed to sack him for way too long. Other stuff too but that's the crux.

The new public sector investment economics seems to be that if a project can achieve something then it must be worth anything. Electric cars, HS2 etc. Measuring cost - incl opportunity cost - against benefits seems to have gone out the window.

Entire R4 WATO conversation about moving to electric vehicles without - unless I blinked and missed it - a single mention of how much it will cost. "Holistic, joined-up thinking...yada yada." So how much ££ then and is it affordable or worth it?

100 yards up the road from me, and more than sufficient to remember England's finest. A family home as Bobby would have wanted.

It is part of a fetish to seek to preserve everything. Quite unrealistic really. Why do we not let things go ? Is it a particularly British response ? or universal ?

No, to paraphrase Warhol, in future everyone’s house will be a museum for 15 minutes.

At this rate, 5% of all housing will be museums by 2100.

He's only right if the BBC pledges to ensure its presenters, taken in total, share in the appropriate proportions the political outlook of viewers. In fact they are 90%+ liberal-left, metropolitans. So this idea would in practice be a total disaster for the Beeb.

I don't get the strange fetish to turn the homes of mid-ranking famous people into museums. Edward Heath's lovely house should be occupied by a family by now. Derek Jarman's cottage is the latest example. He was a relatively minor film maker. It's a house - let someone live in it

Ok, so Govt plan seems to be to allow any car sold pre 2035 to be on the roads. Still numerous issues make it an impractical idea IMO.

The issue of electric cars is not settled for me. European EV charging network owned by BMW, Daimler, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and VW Group, with Audi and Porsche called IONITY, has increased charging pricing 500% to approx €63 per full charge. Making it more expensive than fuel.

Has any thought been given to how the fuel duty revenue on Petrol and Diesel will be made up for?

There is no conceivable way to get the electricity grid big enough to power up millions of cars overnight. If there is, where’s the explanation of how it might work and what it will cost?

Its f*cking madness. R&D for new vehicles will effectively start to end soon as a result also. How to destroy an industry 101.
