If you really want people to not drive, you have to make not driving safer, cheaper and more convenient than driving. That’s it. If your policies aren’t aiming squarely at that, then you’re not serious about getting folks to not drive.

John McCain's last few public acts were to protect the healthcare of millions, vote a grotesque tax cut for the wealthy which benefited his family, and refuse to retire, ensuring his constituents would be served by someone they didn't vote for for 2 years.

Well, that got more expensive that I expected. I have not yet committed, but I really really liked the Gunnar Hyper-X I looked at today.

Anyway. It's shit like this that reminds me why my original blog was called "Brutal Women." We have to be TWENTY TIMES BETTER than those guys were just to compete, but yeah, we're the ones nominated on "identity politics." Fuck you, white patriarchy. We are better than you. Deal.

In 2018, Congress is: 81% white (vs. 62% of Amerians). 79.3% male (vs. 49% of Americans). 90.7% Christian (vs. 72% of Americans). Time for our politics to look more like our people.

I’ve experienced this so many times. Police blame “black crime” for wildly discriminatory policing. Analyze the data and it shows police are being wildly discriminatory(🙄). Show them the data, they briefly malfunction, then pivot to “gangs.” Interacting with racist institutions.

Why dogwhistle when you can just propose to go back to the troubles outright. — brexit is shaping up even more ridiculous than projected before the vote.

The biggest crazy WTF about the whole Trump thing is not that the Kremlin might have an agent in the Oval Office — it’s been a staple of spy thrillers for decades — but that the GOP are all like “LOL whatevs” about it. ALL the GOP. The Manchurian Candidate has a Pod People Posse.

Your salary should not be a secret. We are culturally conditioned — I am, too! — to be cagey about it. That’s not good for anybody except the companies that pay us. If anybody wants to talk to me about salary in software engineering, my DMs are open. I’ll share what I know.

Recipe for Seattle August cold-smoked salmon: 1. Go to Pike Place. 2. Buy some salmon like a fucking tourist. 3. Fillet it up like a boss. 4. Set it outside for a few hours. 5. Top with salty tears of climate change sadness and enjoy!

A plain clothes cop tried to force a woman into an unmarked car without identifying himself. She resisted. He shot her to death. He says he accosted her because he thought she was a sex worker. But criminalizing prostitution protects women, right?

I believe -- HOPE -- that none of the men who'll see this on my feed are those kind of people. That's not enough, though. We men have to be better than this, and collectively we're demonstrably not.

Misogyny is alive and well in all political parties. No matter what their beliefs are, it seems that "being a woman" and "being in politics" is still treated as an invitation for threats and abuse.
